Tourism and Local Economic Development

The organisation identified the tourism potential of Victoria West and the Ubuntu Municipal Area. It is busy compiling a brochure to market Victoria West as a tourist destination and provide information about tourist attractions in Victoria West and the Northern Cape. Further assistance is given to people who are interested in establishing enterprises in the tourism industry.

In terms of Local economic development the organisation provides access to tenders, assistance with business registrations, assistance with tenders, training in business plan development and business skills. It also act as the local economic development facilitator for the area.


Social Programmes (HIV/ AIDS advocacy, youth skills training, arts and crafts)

In 2003 the organisation established a loveLife Franchise to address the social ills in terms of HIV/AIDS, low self esteem amongst the youth, sporting skills and during the Annual Apollo Film Festival entertainment programmes for the audiences by utilising youth. At present the organisation have 2 groundBreakers (volunteers paid by loveLife) and one Area Co-ordinator. They work in the Victoria West, Loxton, Hutchinson, Richmond, Murraysburg and all farm schools. In 2008 109 youth graduated through the Mpintshi programme.

It is the intention to relaunched the Apollo Arts and Crafts Programme and open a Curio Shop that will give an offset point to the products from the crafters. During the Film festival a Creativity School is planned that will offer skills development opportunities for local crafters.
